In reality, this is not all new. It started with Six Sigma in Hawthorne Illinois in the 1920's and then grew in Japan as they rebuilt after WWII in the 1940's. But it took Motorola in the 80's and Jack Welch at GE in the 90's to really establish the concept and principles that we now know as Lean and Agile. http://asq.org/pub/sixsigma/past/vol2_issue4/folaron.html So if you want to learn how to apply statistical analysis to get your production or processes to 3.4 defects per million opportunities, buy a book because that part of Six Sigma is boring.
