PMI SWVA Chapter Meeting: Developing PMO Standards: Building Predictability, Transparency, and Confidence
Developing PMO standards is about more than creating templates and procedures. This session explores how effective PMO standards improve predictability, increase transparency, and build stakeholder confidence. Using practical examples from healthcare, emergency management, change management, and portfolio leadership, we'll discuss how to identify essential standards, tailor practices to organizational needs, and continuously improve processes without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

Kevin Pannell is an IT PMO leader with more than 25 years of experience spanning healthcare, emergency management, public safety, and technology. He currently leads enterprise project and portfolio management initiatives for a large academic health system, helping teams improve governance, strategic alignment, organizational change, and delivery outcomes.
A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), and Prosci Change Practitioner, Kevin has led complex programs ranging from healthcare technology implementations to emergency preparedness initiatives. Prior to his career in healthcare IT, he served as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman and worked in emergency medical services and emergency management.
