PMI SWVA Chapter Meeting - Building Your LinkedIn Network

Power Skills

Project managers are natural stakeholder managers, yet many struggle to apply those skills to their own careers. True networking is not about chasing virality or dealing with daily posting anxiety; it is about building a functional piece of career infrastructure.

In this session, Megan will share a low-effort, repeatable system tailored specifically for busy professionals. Moving past the usual networking fluff, she delivers a practical framework to optimize your profile, build authentic visibility, and create a strong professional reputation.

You will learn how to:

  • Position your profile: Rewrite your headline to communicate why people should trust you with complex work.
  • Drive visibility without posting: Use high-value commenting to show how you think.
  • Master outreach: Craft short, specific, no-ask connection requests that sound human.
  • Map your ecosystem: Target the right cross-functional partners and leaders to unlock career mobility.

This session is for project managers and leaders at any stage who want to turn simple network maintenance into measurable career opportunities.

Megan Adkins is the VP of Delivery Operations at Modea and the Past President of the SWVA PMI Chapter. A Virginia Tech graduate with PMP, PMI-ACP, CSPO, and Lean Green Belt credentials, she successfully evolved her career from an "accidental project manager" into an influential digital consultant.

For Megan, networking is about far more than career advancement because she knows firsthand the life-changing power of human connection. Through her own LinkedIn and professional relationships, she was able to bypass institutional noise and connect her grandmother with a senior care facility, granting her family three additional, quality years together. In this session, Megan combines her leadership expertise with this profound personal milestone to share actionable strategies for building a purpose-driven network that delivers real value when it matters most.
