Managing Motivation: Leadership from an AT Thru-Hike
Kendall Lott, PMP

Join us in November as we listen to Kendall's tips from his thru-hike on the AT!

Topic:

Leadership, management, and motivation are not just metaphors, but things that the physicality of an endurance hike can inform…and it comes with beautiful trail pictures. 9 lessons from the trail remind us of how to self-manage and manage teams, all learned from the physicality of the trail.  These lessons lead to a realization of a simple technique to manage personal motivation to take on challenges.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will learn a technique for managing motivation that empowers success, as well as be reminded of 9 steps that have application directly to the management of projects to help us be better managers and leaders.

Speaker Bio:

With over 25 years of experience in the federal government and as a consultant, Kendall Lott is the CEO/ President of M Powered Strategies, Inc, a change management consulting firm in Washington DC that supports organizations in public service (feds and associations). He was a Presidential Management Fellow the Departments of Agriculture and Justice, and before that, a Peace Corps Volunteer in Micronesia. His government consulting career has included extensive work in Jordan, India and Malaysia. He holds a Master of International Affairs from UC San Diego, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from Indiana University, Bloomington.  He is a certified StrengthsFinder Coach and a PMP.

Now the fun stuff:  Kendall was a volunteer with the PMIWDC chapter for almost 15 years, about half of that on the board.  No longer a PM, he just plays like one on the podcast he hosts (and that is available on any podcatcher), PM Point of View (check it out, free PDU’s!)  He is also the CEO of PM for Change, a nonprofit that hosts the PM Day of Service, and he invites all of you to get engaged in the boundless potential of Project Management to empower and transform our communities.   But we are listening this evening, because in 2017, this desk jockey completed a 2189-mile thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail.
