Board Member Spolight - Paige Kanode, President
General
Meet our 2019 president, Paige Kanode!
- How long have you been a member?
- I have been a member of PMI and the SWVA chapter since 2012. I have served on the PMI SWVA board for all 7 of those years as a director at large, VP of Professional Development, President Elect and President.
- What are your certifications?
- I am PMP and PMI-ACP certified. I am also ITIL Foundation certified and a certified ScrumMaster and Scrum Professional.
- What is your most memorable project you have managed?
- One of the most memorable projects I have managed were the 2015 and 2016 SWVA PMI symposiums. It was so rewarding to lead a team of volunteers and put together a memorable event for our chapter members. I was able to meet and work with other members from the chapter, sponsors and international speakers I would have never had the opportunity to work with before and I learned something from each one of them. It was exciting to see it all come together after all the months of planning and work by the team. It was a lot of hard work for all those involved but it is something I will always remember with pride.
- How has PMI supported your goals/growth?
- While PMI has certainly supported my growth by providing readily available resources such as templates & WebEx’s, opportunities to grow as a leader and the distinction of being a certified project manager; it is the SWVA chapter that truly has supported me. I have met so many wonderful people over the past seven years that have made an impact on my role as a project manager and to my career. Even better, many have become friends and mentors.
- What is one lesson learned you would like to share with your fellow members?
- Network, network, network. Get to know your fellow chapter members. You never know when an opportunity may fall in your lap or you’re unexpectedly in a place where you need a new opportunity. Having a connection with other project managers provides you the ability to learn more about companies in the area and find out about other positions when you need them the most. It’s invaluable when you are in a panel interview and know everyone on the panel through the chapter or when you start a new job and see familiar faces you’ve met through the chapter. Having those connections can provide you an unexpected opportunity that can change your career.
